SkyWatch & Picterra team-up to offer better geospatial insights to all

SkyWatch Space Applications, a Canadian software startup offering services to satellite operators, has reportedly announced a new partnership with a Swiss startup Picterra to offer better geospatial insights to all.

The EarthCache™ platform of SkyWatch helps software developers by offering them tools they require to add EO data inside their workflows and applications in a cost-effective manner. Picterra is a renowned ML/AI SaaS platform that helps enterprises to autonomously extract analytics and  intelligence from aerial, done, and satellite imagery.

CEO of SkyWatch, James Slifierz stated that when it comes to geospatial insights, one of the most difficult things to achieve is the capability to affordably and easily access satellite data in a manner that is quick as well as easy for the user to derive insights for their business.

Slifierz further added that merging both accessibility and ease of applying and developing intelligence of the data so as to allow any enterprise to have tools to derive insights, EarthCache is effectively designed to make access to satellite and aerial imagery much easy. The new partnership essentially knocks down a prominent hindrance that is holding back the growth of this market.

However, the platform does not offer data analysis as Picterra is not a data provider. Instead, the firm helps clients develop their own ML (machine learning) algorithms to recognize things such as building footprints in the imagery clients either find in or upload the startup’s library of open-source imagery.

Monika Ambrozowicz, Product Marketing Manager at Picterra, stated that owing to the integration of the automated detection algorithms of Picterra and the EarthCache feature of automated tasking request, everyone can take advantage of alerting and monitoring capabilities that were previously unseen.

Ambrozowicz further added that now monitoring changes in infrastructure, economic activity, deforestation, and refugee camps is possible.
